Open in case of temporary exhibitions.
The "Architecture of the Grain" is represented in two landmark buildings in Alhama: The House of La Tercia and the "Pósito Municipal" or Muncipal Barn.
The Pósito Municipal (Municipal Barn) is an 18th century building located in the old Calle del Pósito, now known as Calle Fulgencio Cerón Cava, and its main function was to regulate trade in cereals, but it also was used for loans of public funds.
The building has a simple structure with a rectangular
layout and two floors. The materials used were brick and maçonery to finish the
different sections. The ground floor has a unique structure, as the room is
covered with groin vaults, thus dividing the space into small areas aimed at
housing exhibitions. The top floor, which has more light is joined by a number
of pillars, although the feeling now is one of a unitary space kept for housing
the different temporary exhibitions which are held in Alhama. The granary was
restored in 2006 to be used as an Exhibition Centre, so this emblematic
building has been brought back to life.
