The ECOS Festival of Sierra Espuña moves its 2025 edition to November - 07/08/2025

The programme and new venues for this edition will be officially announced in early October 2025.

The ECOS Festival of Sierra Espuña, organised by the Mancomunidad Turística de Sierra Espuña together with Early Music Project , the vocal group Cantoría and the University of Murcia, officially announces the postponement of its ninth edition to November 2025, instead of being held as usual in summer. The festival will take place between 7 and 22 November, spread over three weekends, with concerts in different locations in the ‘Territorio Sierra Espuña”.

 The decision has been taken jointly by all the promoting entities, which have spent the last few months looking for solutions to finance the festival. The increase in the production costs of the concerts due to price rises in recent years and the reduction in financial support from the Regional Tourist and Culture Board in the last edition have made it necessary to rethink the event in order to adapt to the new reality. Even so, thanks to the efforts of the promoters, and even the artists who will be part of the ECOS 2025 line-up, this edition will once again feature strategic international collaborations, the result of synergies consolidated in recent years: the Brighton Early Music Festival (United Kingdom), the Estella Early Music Week (Navarra), the International Young Artist Presentation (Antwerp) and the S-EEEMERGING project, funded by the European Union. Groups such as Cantoría, co-organiser of the festival; Anacronía, also linked to ECOS; and the University of Murcia Orchestra will be present and will collaborate to ensure that the festival maintains the high standard of previous editions.

Survival of the ECOS festival in Sierra Espuña

ECOS is a festival that is held thanks to the support of many institutions and companies and is an example of a public-private partnership that has resulted in a tourist and cultural product that is taking the name of the Region of Murcia and the destination ‘Territorio Sierra Espuña’ to many corners of Europe.

The organisers are committed to the sustainable growth of the festival, adapted to the resources committed by the promoting entities and the maintenance of support from the central and regional administrations through lines of support for cultural industries.

The Ministry of Culture, through the Instituto Nacional de la Artes y la Música,  has reaffirmed its support for the festival with an increase in funding compared to previous editions, positively valuing the fact that it is a festival that advocates cultural decentralisation and territorial uniqueness. However, the commitment of the Regional Government of Murcia still needs to be stabilised. In the absence of confirmation of the support it will offer for the 2025 edition, it reduced its contribution by more than 60% in the last edition compared to 2023.

This decline in financial resources has caused delays in the organisation of the event and led to its postponement until November. Even so, work continues with all the entities involved in order to provide the festival with stable and sufficient resources to guarantee its future.

For their part, the sponsorship of companies such as El Pozo, Iberchem and Autocares Espuña has been essential for the consolidation of the festival. Thanks to all this, although with certain changes, the ECOS Festival will be able to continue its commitment to offering sustainable, quality tourism in the ‘Territorio de Sierra Espuña’, providing an innovative programme that is connected to the identity of the territory and the natural heritage of the environment, while also boosting the local economy.
